Mark Skousen and Steve Forbes Discuss Giving Dear Investor’s Daily Edge Reader, How does one give their money away to charity the right way? That’s what Alex Green, editor of Spiritual Wealth, Steve Forbes, and Mark Skousen talked about this morning. As it turns out, giving your money away isn’t as easy as one would think. So many people give their money away to their Alma matter. But, do they even know what their Alma matter stands for or what they plan on doing with that money? Researching who you’re giving your money too is even more important than actually giving your money away. Steve Forbes used the example of Princeton. They have billions in endowments. So why should he give them even more money? Steve said that his money would be better served by giving it to one of the startup divisions that 1. he believes in and 2. actually need the money. Mark Skousen and Alex Green both agreed. They even told a story about how they were sitting at lunch one day when they found out that Ted Turner was going to give a billion dollars to the UN. One of them says ‘Ah, poor sap knows how to make money, but not give it away’. So if you decide to give your money away to a charitable organization, make sure you believe in what they do and that your money will be well spent with them. Don’t forget, research is extremely important. Crash Proof Your Portfolio Another topic that was covered today was how to crash proof your portfolio. The typical answers of diversification were given. But in particular, weighing your portfolio into precious metals AND high-income paying investments was also covered.
