Social proof is powerful....very powerful.
Why else would people spend two seconds
following the coming and goings of sorry
air heads like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears?
But does it make sense for YOU to be
a social proof follower?
When you were younger, you may have gone
to your mamma with the following argument for
why you HAD to have or do something:
"But everyone else is going it."
And your mom, in all her wisdom, may
have replied as so many have...
"If everyone were jumping off the Brooklyn
Bridge would you do it too?"
(Don't you hate it when your mom makes sense?)
What matters in life is not how many people
are doing something, but WHO is doing it.
If a million investors blow their hard earned
money on stupid investments, does that mean
they're smarter than one person who invests
wisely, say like Warren Buffet?
Of course not.
If you have a worthy product, by all means
use every tool at your disposal to sell
it, but as a consumer don't be railroaded into
buying overpriced cr@p just because the marketer
is good at simulating a stampede of demand.
"Our server nearly blew up."
"10 gazillion people have hit the site in the
last 15 minutes."
"Paris Hilton is going to be at our party."
*** The WHO is more important than the how many
Which brings me to this...
This year, for the first time ever, Google is sending
one of its top executives to speak at the System
Seminar.
Not a *former* Google executive (who in their right
mind would leave Google at this point?), but an
active one, one their payroll.
Do you think Google makes decisions like that
lightly?
Also, speaking at this year's System is a man who
owns a company that is only one of two in the world
that is certified by Google to teach Google Analytics.
Do you think Google might have sky high standards
and is careful about who they certify?
These are just two of over twenty-five faculty members
who will be teaching at System 2008. Not celebrities,
just serious-as-death experts in their fields. (Nice
guys too without the big "guru" egos.)
*** What about System 2008 attendees?
We sold out our hotel block over a month ago
and are now packing attendees in with a shoe horn,
but that doesn't matter.
What matters is the QUALITY of who comes to our
annual seminar.
We welcome every serious minded person regardless
of their background, but the event is designed for
the real Internet marketing pro.
We don't bribe Internet "celebrities" to attend our events
to give them credence.
(In fact, we have a long list of banned Internet "gurus" who are
not even allowed in the door.)
Instead we judge our success by the serious players who show
up.
*** A typical System attendee
Last weekend Perry Marshall gave a fascinating
workshop in Chicago on the power of the 80/20
Rule.
Perry is the legendary Internet marketer who
cracked the code on Google AdWords.
His insights into AdWords and how to use it
are at the core of dozens of Internet marketing
systems that have appeared in the last five
years.
Perry is one of a huge number of today's leading
Internet marketing experts who is a graduate
of the System Seminar.
He attended his first one in 2002 and at the time
wasn't quite sure what a pay-per-click ad was
and why anybody would bother with them.
But I recommended he come and he did - and the
rest is history.
Where will Perry be next weekend, May 30, May 31
and June 1?
I can tell you one place he he won't be...
He wont' be chasing the latest Internet flavor-of-the-month
fad.
Instead he'll be where he's been every year - without
fail - since his first System Seminar...
*** At the System Seminar.
It will be his eighth in a row without missing one (we used
to do two a year, but our grads are too busy making
money to attend more than one a year.)
Perry's at a point where he can afford to attend any
seminar he wants.
Heck, he's be a welcome guest at just about any legitimate
Internet marketing gathering on earth.
But the one place he makes sure he is every year
is the System Seminar .
Why?
I asked him and here's what he wrote:
"Ken:
Here's my point of view about you and the System:
-STRONG knack as talent scout. Repeated demonstrated
ability to locate specialists and gifted people who
truly know their trade and are ready for the stage.
This is a rare gift.
-Militant about quality: You don't put up with
mediocrity in your seminars, products you sell,
or anything that affects your reputation. There's a
lot of old-fashioned values and goodness in what you
require of yourself and people you endorse. A consistently
higher standard than others are willing to tolerate.
-Hound dog for history: If I want a historical
perspective on something, I can always count on you to
give me an angle I hadn't heard before. A sharp eye for
repeating patterns and underlying causes. Also a gift for
stating those things clearly and succinctly.
A wide lens of books and information sources
that most people would never bother with.
-Clear discrimination of the difference between
fads and trends. A dislike of fads but willingness to
use them to your advantage. A love of seeing trends
before they're apparent to others and like the
talent scout thing, a knack for it. Very likely to be
able to single out what's going to be a lasting
phenomenon as opposed to yesterday's news.
-You're one of the best copywriters on the net. You're
actually probably my #1 influence in terms of how to
do specifically email. Been reading your emails for 10
years I think.
-Stability and consistency: You're steadfast in places
where steadfastness is often under-valued. Creates loyalty
and a sense of security in those you serve.
Hope this is useful.
Perry"
Where are you going to be May 30 , May 31 and June 1?
Doesn't it make sense to go to the same source the real
pros go to?

Ken
P.S. We are, of course, getting down to the wire.
System 2008 is next weekend.
Other Internet "opportunities" will always be
available later - and often at a much discounted
prices..
On the other hand, the System and all it offers -
including cutting edge material that the copycats
won't have for months or even years - comes only
once a year.
