Reader
2008 was one of the rockiest
years in the history of business.
If you're still standing, pat
yourself on the back.

I was listening to a talk recently
by my Internet "pioneer days" colleague
Marc Andreessen.
He pointed out that ALL of the successul
companies he started were started at the
WRONG time.
Netscape was started in the middle of
a Silicon Valley slump...
OpsWare was started right at the top
of the Dot Com craze...
From a timing point of view, both should
have failed.
They didn't.
Netscape literally launched the web
revolution...
Marc sold OpsWare to HP eight years
later for $1.6 billion - that's billion
with a "B" - when he was 36 years old...
What's Marc's secret?
Actually, he's got a lot of them, but
one of them is this:
He reads.
I can't tell you what advantage it is to
an entrepreneur to be a reader.
Conferences and networking with peers is
great...but reading gives you access to
the "mother lode" of business advice and
insight - and you can do it for pennies.
Some people fall out of the habit of
reading when they leave school...
Some never got into it...
Others leave it to the "gurus" to tell
them what's important...
Bad idea.
Here's the deal:
Just 20 minutes of reading well chosen books
per day adds up to 121 hours of reading
per a year.
That's three solid weeks each year with the
best minds in business - for pennies.
Do this and I guarantee it will change your
life for the better.
