I woke up this morning in London to this headline
in The Times...
"Economy faces sharpest downturn for 30 years"
Now there's something to get you in the mood.
Interestingly enough though for Internet retailers in the
UK sales are UP this year 12%.
it might be the only part of the economy that is.
Hot shot Internet shares may be doing poorly on the
stock market, but people who sell real things to real
people via the Internet are doing just fine.
I asked my faculty last weekend in Chicago if any of their
businesses are experiences a downturn.
None of them have noticed it.
The UK Intensive this weekend has the biggest attendance
of all the cities I've brought the Intensive to so no damage
to my training business either.

Some timing quirks...
As of yesterday, the US dollar is now the strongest
its been against the British Pound in twelve years.
The Euro has never been so high against the Pound
in it entire history as it is right now - today.
If you live in the UK or Europe, you're probably used
to watching currency movements. In the US, it's less
common to pay attention.
But here's what it means...
* This is the cheapest the UK has been in 12 years to visit
if you're from the US or Europe.
* It's become a lot MORE expensive for people who live in
the UK to visit the US
So for UK folks, not only is this one of the best Internet
marketing seminars to ever take place in Britain, it's
also a very timely opportunity to get world class training
without the expense of travel expenses to the US.
If you live in the US, it's been 12 years since traveling
to London has been so reasonable.
Sure looks like a sign to me.
If you've been on the fence, now's the time...

Now that I've been here a few days, I'm noticing
some strange things about London.
They do a lot of things backwards here.
Everyone knows they drive on the wrong side
of the street.
But also, instead of yelling "Yo!" when they want to
get someone's attention they yell "Oy!" the exact
opposite.
I wonder how that got started.
Also, strange to me is the number of ways there are
to speak English. It seems like everyone has their
own personal accent there are so many of them.
We have accents and regional dialects in the US,
but in London there seems to be a new one every
time you turn the corner.
I'm hoping one of the attendees can explain to me
how this came to be.

London has a very international outlook
There are 302 languages spoken here and every kind
of food and drink you can imagine.
In the windows of the real estate offices, you see listings
for London, of course, but you also see listings for
places like Florida, Spain, Thailand and Dubai.
I realized today one of the reasons why Brits are so passionate
about the sun...they don't get much of it.
Do you know where Newfoundland is?
It's lovely in the summer and then it turns to ice in the winter.
The northern part is practically uninhabited which means no
one in North America (unless you live in Alaska) knows what
it's like to get so little sun.
Here's a geographic shocker....
London is on the same parallel as the northernmost
reaches of Newfoundland. Only the Gulf Stream keeps
England from freezing over.
I will never laugh at a Brits' obsession with Florida
again. I get it. The sun is only an occasional visitor here
in the winter - and now in November.
Maybe that's why Londoners may be the world's leading
champions at INDOOR fun...
* Shopping - there are 30,000 shops here (I was just in one
that sells nothing but umbrellas and walking sticks)
* Eating - there are over 5,000 restaurants in London,
giving New York a run for its money
* Partying - there are over 19,000 night spots and on an
average night 500,000 people are out on the town
making Las Vegas look a bit quiet and tame in comparison.
* Movies and theater - over 6,000 stages and screens
* Money (even with the crash) - there are more US banks in
London than there are in NYC and more Japanese banks
than there are in Toyko
But the greatest attraction for me is the people. They're sharp,
funny and very sociable.
They specialize in humor that brings the self-important
down to size. In fact, it's a national specialty.
In England, it's OK to yell at the Prime Minister in
Parliament when he tries to peddle BS and news
reporters are a lot less likely to ask the kind of "softball"
questions that US reporters seem to specialize in.
They're also very good at making celebrities look ridiculous.
In short, it's not a place for coasting or taking things for
granted. You've got to be on your toes here.
Friendly, down to earth, smart, funny...it's hard to think of
more important qualities for people.

This is the last message you'll get from me before
this weekend's System Intensive in London.
If you miss it, I'll know I did everything I possibly
could to remind you.
It's great to be here. If you want to be here too, there has
never been a smarter time to just do it.
